UNDERSTANDING THE ANTICS OF THE DEVIL

Text:2 COR. 2:11
INTRODUCTION
•Christians are in a constant welfare with the devil and his agents but we most times forget this is the reality. 1 Pet. 5:8

•The devil is particularly attacking the church, Christians and their families.

•Every day he meets with his demons to devise new plans to attack us but we, Christians are sleeping. Eph. 6:12.

•Most of our physical struggles have spiritual undertone.

DEFINITION OF TERMS

•Understanding means to have a good knowledge of something

•Antics means tricks, plan, scheme and strategies

THE SCHEME OF THE DEVIL
•Our text 2 Cor. 2:11 asks not to be unaware of the devil’s scheme.

•The Bible has given us several strategies of the devil and how they can be addressed. 1 Pet. 5:8-9 emphasizes the same thing.

•The devil and his agents cannot stand against us when we stand and are strong in the Lord.

HOW THE DEVIL IS SILENTLY ATTACKING US
•1. Challenging God’s Words:
The first recorded words of the devil, through the serpent, were these: “Did God really say?” (Gen. 3:1). With those words, the devil invited the woman to reconsider what she understood God to have said.

•2. Hardening of Hearts:
The devil hardens the disobedient heart that he or she will never listen to words of wisdom. Acts. 5:3, Heb. 3:7-8

•3. Sowing Discords:
The devil sows seed of discord between couples, siblings, brethren and church to attack their peace and togetherness. Gal. 5:15
HOW THE DEVIL IS SILENTLY ATTACKING US
•4. Unforgiveness of Wrongs:
The devil continues to expand hurt and anger in our hearts to the extent that we do not forgive and forget wrongs against us. 2 Cor. 2:10-11.

•5. Attacking Our Identity and Faith:
To make his wiles more effective, he hits us during a crisis or a spiritual struggle and suggests, “If you were a child of God, this wouldn’t happen. Lk. 4: 1-13
HOW DO WE RESIST THE DEVIL
•We must never forget that we are in constant warfare with the Devil - James 4:7

•We need to pray without ceasing – 1Thess. 5:17

•We must be immersed in the word of God to resist him – Lk. 4

•The armor of God are His words, righteousness, readiness to preach and shield of faith – Eph. 6: 13-16

HOW DO WE RESIST THE DEVIL
•We must speak out to seek clarifications when we are wrong and forgive all evil doings.

•It is possible to forgive and live in peace.

•We must be humble to listen to other people’s opinion and accept corrections. We cannot resist the devil without submission to God and ourselves – James 4:7
